From Cataño to the World: Who is Steven Rivera Camacho

Hello, Welcome to the my traveling blog!

Before starting this traveling blog I would like to talk to you about me and why I am writing this blog. Just a small auto interview of myself for you guys.

So, Who is Steven Rivera Camacho?

Well, I am a caring, funny, outgoing, blunt, adventurous, and loving guy. I love to travel is kind of my addiction.  I also like to eat food especially while I travel. I just recently graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelors degree in Spanish and Cultural Anthropology with a minor in Latino Studies. At the moment working as a merchandise flow lead in Aeropostale (for those who don't know what is Aeropostale is a clothing store... www.aeropostale.com check it out!).  I have been traveling since I was 6 years old but the traveling bug really kicked in at the beginning of 2014.

Where Steven Rivera Camacho from?

Most of you know but I'm from the small town and the anteroom of the capital of Puerto Rico, Cataño. Born in Bayamón, raised in Cataño ( El pueblo que se lego a morir). Lived in the public housing of Juana Matos for 13 years and Vista del Morro for 2 years Cataño for 15 years of my life and later moved to the Lancaster, Pennsylvania where I have being living for the past 7 years and 3 months trying to make a better future for myself and my family.

Why traveling?

Everything started as a child. The first time I traveled out side of the island of Puerto Rico was when I was only 6. I went to Lancaster, PA, New Jersey city, NJ, and NYC, New York to visit my mom side of the family and meet for the first time my uncles and aunts. I don't remember much but I know that morning when we woke up to go to the airport. It was so late that my sister was so mad she was up but me I was on the other spectrum I was awake and ready to go on the plane with a huge smile on my face. I don't remember much but when I see the pictures I get some memories of how fun it was to meet all the side of the family and go on a plane. At that time I didn't realize what was traveling but I knew I liked it.

The second reason that I love traveling is because I collect coins and bills from different part of the world. My grandfather (Abuelo Canito) he had a collections of coins and on my 14th birthday he gave me one of his coins as a present and since then I was fascinated about about world currency and knowing the people that were on the coins and bills and know what those people had their faces there. I used to look them up in my encyclopedia ( I hope you all know what are those still). As well my pastor was a coins and bills collector and his collection is huge. He use to display them during the church missionary services and campaign. I use to spend hours watching those coins and that was one of the things that spark that fire of traveling in my soul. I wanted to go to every country and get their currency and understand why that country put those faces or animals or structures in their currency.

Third reason that I love traveling is because my grandfather (Canito) used to read the newspaper the entire day and he always saved me the Thursday copy of the Vocero (one of the newspaper in Puerto Rico) "El Viajero" ("The Traveler") This small newspaper inside the regular newspaper was only 10-15 pages long but it talked about places to visit and things to eat and what to do and not to do when you are abroad etc. I became to saved them and it was a bond that my 80 years old grandfather and I had. I will literally go to his house everyday from 5pm to 8pm to read the newspaper with him and wait for the viajero to come and talk about it with him. Talked to him about how I wanted to go to Cuba and I wanted to take him with me or go to India and see the Taj Mahal or Brazil and the Rio.  I eventually got rid of them because the newspaper stop making them and I moved to the United States.

Why a Traveling Blog?

I decided to write a traveling blog because in the past two years I have had the opportunity to travel to multiple cities that I never imagine to see in my life. A lot of my friends and people that I met ask me why I don't write about my adventures and my traveling and I always responded with " I don't know I never thought about it but I will look into it" and here I am writing to you guys.

I am looking forward to hear your feed back about my blog. I wanted to talk about myself a little bit so then I could start talking about my travels. I am going to start from the beginning...well not from the USA travel when I was 6 and don't remember everything but from my first Mission trip to HONDURAS when I was just a pre teen. I will post pictures and videos as I go writing about my travels. Enjoy and God bless you all!
